Ahhh, folks!!!
As many of you already know, I have been suffering from debilitating seizures that wonāt seem to leave me alone. I am taking another breather for several reasonsā¦ I am tired! I want whatever content I can make to be the best it can be, and that means taking time so I have the energy and capacity to concentrate so I can record, write and edit.
I also want to normalise something that is, well, practically shameful in our society, a society that measures worth by productivity: taking a break. I am chronically ill, I am trying to stop apologising for that, even though thinking about it still terrifies me. My inner voice still says it is something I should be apologetic about, always.
Chronic. Illness. Constant. Pain. And yet, I live. Not at the same pace as others, maybe. Nor should I expect myself to. Nor should I, or anybody else, ever compare themselves to other people. Whether thatās in looks or careers or health or social life. Thatās what this is all about, right? Redefining expectations, productivity, success. Flipping our perspective. Creating a new narrative. Brewing a new reality.
Which brings me to my recommendation this week, Flipped, brought to you by the director of such classic films as The Princess Bride & When Harry Met Sally, itās a sweet, feel good film, perfect for entering the Autumn months. And flipping your perspective ;) It is available on UK Netflix and you can find it elsewhere, too. This quote summarises how I feel about my best friend, who is celebrating their 20th birthday today š„³ I hope it convinces you to watch the film, or celebrate somebody you love, or even better, both!
Some of us get dipped in flat, some in satin, some in gloss; but every once in a while, you find someone who's iridescent, and once you do, nothing will ever compare. -Chet, Flipped
This might be the last time you hear from me for a few weeks while I try and recover and find a routine that enables me to work while prioritising my health. For those of you going back to work and school, my thoughts are with you. For each one of you reading this, wear a mask, stay safe & look after your own health too!
Love,
