Dearest Sweet Teas,
I hope this love letter finds you basking in sunshine (don’t forget suncream!!)
Some good, if not terrifying, news is that my laparoscopy for stage 4 endometriosis has been moved forward to the 2nd June! Which is… TOMORROW. Yay and also EEP, this might be my last note for a while, I hope not.
This month I was invited to visit my old school to give advice to the sixth formers, I tried to show them that whether you attend university or not, you can still achieve and learn wonderful things. I do not have any regrets about not going to uni, and if you or someone you know is worrying whether it is the right path for them, please encourage them it is just one route of many, and nothing is set in stone.
I have always believed that education is the route to solving all our problems and I hope I will have more opportunities in the future to be involved in working with schools. It was so lovely catching up with some of my teachers! One of the students actually recognised me from Tea with HB- which was surreal! This has happened twice in the last month- the other time was by a doctor who said she was using it as a resource for her other patients- a dream come true. I created Tea with HB to help one person, someone who felt as alone as I did when I started getting ill at age 10. To think that it has reached the point where I am being recognised in public warms my heart (and feels a bit weird haha!) Thank you all for your support, especially my patrons, without whom I would not be writing this.
My Dad had a nasty cold this month and I made him breakfast. His signature dish in our family is scrambled eggs, he makes the best ever, so I did my best to recreate it. It was nice to be able to do a tiny thing to care for someone else, since I am so often being cared for. After my operation, I’m grateful my family will be supporting me- even if I can’t eat scrambled eggs for a while! I hope you have someone in your life who makes you feel cared for, and I hope next time you feel like a burden, you remember what a gift it is to let others help.
Love,
HB x
