Looking for the light
Hello dear friend,
What a month it has been. I endeavoured to make this month's reflection more joy-filled than January, unfortunately fate has not made it easy. But I will not tell you about the seizures I had this month, or the continual disappointment and frustration in not being able to find medical help, or the disgust I feel for the removal of covid protections, or the fear I am sure we are all filled with from current world events! No, now is not the time for dwelling on dark things, because, as Uncle Iroh says...
If you look for the light, you can often find it. But if you look for the dark that is all you will ever see.
Joy in this month came in bowls of popcorn and rows of sushi. Laughs from black humoured jokes made with my brother, and games played with friends. Matching outfits with my mother. Discovering wordle. Learning Japanese on Duolingo. A late night virtual tour of an American university (if you can't sleep it helps to have a friend in an earlier timezone!) And by far the most joyful: my boyfriend introducing me to Lord of the Rings and watching it with my sister-in-love & brother. What excellent films, and what a pertinent moment to appreciate them. Tolkien was right:
There's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for. - Samwise
