Heartbreaking Comfort - March 22
Inhale, Exhale...
Spring is here!!! The daffodils are out and poetry is in the air. Can you smell it?! Here *passes you a cup of tea* come sit with me and take a break for a moment.
March... from enduring more medical gaslighting from my doctors to being denied disability benefits for the second time, as well as raising awareness for Endometriosis Awareness Month, I can only express my gratitude for this community. Hundreds of you wrote to me in solidarity, sharing your own experiences and supporting me. It is a heartbreaking comfort to know I am not alone.
I have now switched doctor surgeries and am thrilled to say that so far, they are more empathetic, sensitive, and kind, then any other team I have come across.
With the disturbing attitude of 'returning to normal' being adopted by many, I include an excerpt from my blog post 'Survival of the Fittest' which you can read in full here. Disabled people are not a weakness or a burden, and we deserve to be protected. Please continue wearing masks!
Evolution does not mean eradicating disability, disability will always exist. This is what Darwin actually said: ‘It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.’ And who is the most adaptable to change? Disabled people. We have to adapt every single day.
Throughout April I had intended to share my poems on instagram for #Escapril but unfortunately I am not sure I will be able to do so now, I am struggling with severe side effects from a new painkiller I was put on this month, and withdrawl is not fun... When I did have energy, I published a few earlier on my patreon so if you're interested you can find more there.
