Insecurities, we all have them. In this episode, my friend Clover and I are talking about insecurities, as women, students, Chronic Illness sufferers and people living with education, healthcare and food systems that are not exactly… secure. I'm so grateful Clover was willing to be so open and honest, it made this such an insightful episode. ‘Beau-tea’, was the original title, but we talk about so much more than looking beautiful, it's more about feeling secure in the skin you're in.
Thinking about recording this episode, the the first thing that sprung to mind was makeup. That obvious, external, noticeable-to-everybody thing that I associate with being thought of as beautiful. Clover is one of the most beautiful people I've ever met, inside and out, makeup on or not. (She's also one of the bravest.) What I discovered in recording this episode is that it really is the inside that matters most. Feeling secure in ourselves is more important than what we look like to each other. We didn't end up talking about makeup… at all. We did talk about unrealistic expectations and pressures, the abstract issues that affect us all so deeply. All of which would be easier to cope with and dismantle if we only spoke about them more! So here's a start. A conversation about modelling with a chronic illness, relationships, discrimination… I'd love it if below we could continue the conversation. Is there a person you admire? Tell them, maybe the thing you love about them is their biggest insecurity. That's what I learnt from talking to Clover.
