Hello sweet tea, and a warm welcome if you are new here!
I hope Tea with HB is a helpful resource for you- please consider supporting me here or on patreon if you enjoy my work!
I’m so exhausted. An A&E visit, covid, discharged from therapy (like this if you think limiting the number of sessions a patient can have for physio/mental health etc is bonkers?!) and I can’t count the number of times I’ve broken down sobbing.
Disability Pride Month isn’t about forcing yourself to feel happy or proud- it’s a protest for disabled people to have equal rights, and a celebration of our existence. For me, it is a reminder of my resilience. I live in a world and body that constantly work against me! So instead of going into detail about how distressing this month has been for me, I would like to leave you with something I am truly proud of- a poem I wrote in my Studio Ghibli inspired Poetry Orchard Workshop! Please come along to our writing workshops if you’d like to join an inspiring and supportive community of creatives!
Food as a love language
And oh, though my joints are weak
Though my mind is heavy with thoughts so bleak
I hope I will be able to cook for you in times of need
To teach you filling a stomach is a luxury separate from greed
And oh, I know how fast time will fly
And you will grow to discover meals that I have never tried
But when we come back to laughing around the table
I hope the taste you'll remember most is of a love that is stable
Love,
HB x
☀️ Good News: This month felt like that moment when your internet won’t work and the buffering symbol keeps almost loading but then doesn’t- and yet I still made it through!
🎶 Music: Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)
📚 Book: House of Hades by Rick Riordan
📺 TV: Anne with an E - I adore this book and show and always will!
🍿 Movie: The Truman Show
🍜 Food: Onigirazu from The Japanese Larder Cookbook by Luiz Hara
🖋️ Journal Prompt: Which part of yourself do you criticise too much?
P.S Despite my insistent pessimism- I am so grateful for great friends, good food, a supportive family, national trust gardens being accessible, the few medical professionals who do care, and the power of laughter in the dark.
